Parent Newsletter – 9/3/13
Summer draws to an end – As the memories of the summer begin to fade, I’m reminded of the statement that the best things you can give your children, next to good habits, are good memories. Soon, they will also have good memories of the new school year to add to their summer reflections.
Thank you for your caution! – Please be careful when dropping your children off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon. Supervision of our playground area before school begins at 8:00 a.m. daily. Because there is no supervision until 8:00, students who do not ride the bus are asked to remain home until 8:00. Morning childcare is provided for a minimal fee for all students who heed to be dropped off prior to 8:00 a.m. For the safety of our students, please do not drive on to the playground while students are outside. There is a designated area, turning on to our playground from 8th Street, for dropping off students in the mornings.
All students are expected to be at school at 8:15a.m. when the bell is rung. Students line up by class on the playground and then are welcomed in to school. For security reasons, the playground doors are locked as soon as all students have entered the building. If your child is late, he / she should be taken to the front doors to enter, and check in at the office before going to the classroom.
Hot Lunch – A reminder that ALL Hot Lunch fees are due by the 10th of each month. A $5.00 late fee will be assessed for any payments coming in after the 10th. The September Hot Lunch Menu is being sent home today in the Family Envelope.
The Free and Reduced Lunch Forms are being sent home today, please return these forms in your Family Envelope by Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
Back to School Parent Information Night – A “Back to School” Parent Information Night for ALL parents will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:30p.m. to 8:00p.m.. The meeting will start with an introduction of new staff members at 6:30p.m. in the Cafeteria, and continue with meetings in the classrooms. We will have four 15 minute classroom sessions. All parents are asked to attend, as this is the time that teachers go over their expectations for the year. No children please. Thank you for your effort to attend this evening. Communication is vital for a successful school year!

Thank you Home and School – I’d like to thank the Home and School Association for the wonderful Spiritwear that they gave me this week. Your generosity and kindness is much appreciated. I feel proud to be a St. Andrew Spartan!
St. Andrew “PRIDE” – During this upcoming school year, I will be using this section of the Parent Newsletter to keep you informed of the many wonderful things that we have to be proud of at St. Andrew School. Although I’ve only been here a short time, during my visit last spring and my work here this summer, I have been witness to many of the reasons for this school community’s source of pride. In fact, each letter in the word “PRIDE” can stand for a topic that helps to explain why St. Andrew School is such an exceptional place:
P – Prayer – St. Andrew School, with the support of our Parish, has been blessed with a very strong prayer community. Prayer is an important part of all of our students’ lives on a daily basis.
R -Respect – As I visited the school last spring, I was happy to see the respectful environment that filled the halls at St. Andrew School. We will continue to promote that respect between teachers, students and community.
I – Intellectual Gifts – As the results of our standardized tests show, St. Andrew’s students have been blessed with many intellectual gifts. We will continue to work to provide an atmosphere of high expectations and academic excellence.
D –Determination – I have met so many people who are determined to make St. Andrew School the best that it can be. When parents, staff and students all work together, amazing things can happen!
E –Examples of Christ’s Love – Our students have been, and will continue to be examples of Christ’s love in the community.
I am proud to join this tradition of excellence. I thank those from the past that have made this possible, and I look forward to working with you to bring about a very bright future. As Scripture states: “ I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29: 11
