PASTOR’S REPORT, Father Jim Schuerman: Erick Bourgeois is withdrawing from Parish Council and President for personal reasons. Laura Szatkowski (Human Concerns Representative) has also resigned from parish council for personal reasons. We welcome Patti Wright to Parish Council. She will represent Christian Formation.

Discussion: Father Jim will need to appoint replacements. 3 people are currently needed to fulfill parish council spots.

v  ADMINISTRATIVE & FINANCE SERVICES, Tina Janssen: Three motions were made and approved by FC. From the bequest: –$20,000 grant to Friends of St. Andrews; –Not to exceed $14,000 for rectory kitchen renovations; –$135,000 to pay down mortgage (all these are subject to Fr. Jim and Fr. Angel’s final decision) Remainder of bequest to be used towards Parish Center. Budget presentations to start in March. Looking to form committee to explore Parish Life Center with members from Parish Council, Parish Finance, and Buildings & Grounds. Lauren Bandler has accepted the position on the Parish Life Center Committee representing Parish Council. Other members as of date Fran Schmidt, Jim Stiles and Neill Flood.

v  HUMAN CONCERNS (Need Rep), Father Jim Schuerman: 20 people using homeless shelter at this time. We need more volunteers. Father Angel has made an appeal to the parish men at Mass.

v  PRAYER & WORSHIP (Need Rep), Father Jim Schuerman: There is 1 Feast before Lent begins, Ash Wednesday March 5: The Presentation of Our Lord on February 2.

v  COMMUNICATIONS, Shari Loback: Shari has been keeping up the St. Andrew online calendar for school and parish. Would like this taken care of by parish and school secretaries to keep it more accurate and get rid of redundant work. Calendars can be printed from the website and separate ones do not need to be kept. Father Jim approved scheduling training with Virginia.

v  CHRISTIAN FORMATION (Patti Wright just appointed): No report.

v  SCHOOL COMMITTEE, Lauren Bandler: Held Open House late January. Approximately 3 new families took a tour. District 3 School Choice program will take place on February 20 at Catholic Central and several SC members, interested parents, and principal will be attending to see if there are benefits to becoming a school choice district. Looking to add a St. Patrick Parish Member to School Committee. Will be restructuring School Committee and sub-committees to improve communication and streamline processes. School computer lab completely functional and serves the largest class with a few computers to spare in case of breakdowns.

v  HISPANIC LEADERS, Enrique Rodriguez: Will be doing retreat in the summer. February 14 will be a party in school cafeteria for adults and children watched and entertained on 3rd floor.

v  BUILDINGS & GROUNDS (Need Rep): No report.





We are in need of a leader to take over the Parish Life Team. We need someone who really understands the goal and agenda of this committee.


Ask Parish Leaders and people involved with the Parish Life survey to make recommendations.

All meetings have been held along with the Dishing with Disciples groups. 3 High School students needed to participate March 1 at St. Francis de Sales day-long session, can send as many as 8 people. Synod takes place in June Archdiocese-wide.

Parent Letter 1.21.14

St. Andrew School Open House –This Sunday, January 26th (from 10:30a.m. to 1:30p.m.) is our St. Andrew Parish School Open House.  We invite our school parents of third and fourth grade students to come and talk with our fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade teachers to see all of the great things in store for their future at St. Andrew School.  Please bring or encourage your friends and neighbors to come and visit our school and meet with our teachers.  We invite them to meet our excellent teachers and to visit the many presentations and classroom displays.  Come and see our new SMARTBoards in every classroom!  Please come and enjoy the refreshments and the hospitality of the St. Andrew Home and School Association. We must continue to work to share our “treasure” with the greater community.  We welcome the chance to bring more into our St. Andrew School Family.  A schedule for next week’s Catholic Schools’ Week is included in today’s Family Envelope.  Please note the collection for “The Tree House”.  Students should bring in socks, new books, and notebooks for children affected by abuse.  We are also collecting cans of soup for our Food Pantry.


In order to show our parish families that it’s the start of Catholic Schools’ Week, we ask that all of our students wear their school polo shirts to Mass this weekend.  Thank you for your support of St. Andrew School!


Report Cards Second Quarter Report Cards will be sent home on Tuesday, January 28th.  A reminder to parents that because of the end of the quarter, students will have off this Friday, January 24th.  This is an In-service Day for the teachers.


Attention Parents of Eighth GradersTo help our parents and students be more prepared for Registration Night on February 18th, DDHS would like to host a Registration Informational Session for our 8th grade students and parents at St. Andrew School. This presentation is for students and for any parent that wishes to attend.  This presentation will be Wednesday, on February 12th at 8:30 AM in Mrs. Amici’s Room.  Please mark your calendars for this very important event.


Home and School News – The School Open House is coming up on January 26th.  We need every class member to please bring one dozen of some yummy treats for after the masses.  This is the kick-off for Catholic Schools’ Week and we get lots of visitors.  Please drop your treats off in the school cafeteria before church on Sunday.  Thank you for helping out and we look forward to seeing you at the Open House. 


Scholastic Book FairWe still need helpers for the Scholastic Book Fair!  Please see the schedule for helpers in today’s Family Envelope.  The Book Fair will be held during Catholic Schools’ Week, which is from Sunday, January 26th through Friday, January 31st.


Ski Club – Ski Club is underway for this season.  If you have not signed-up yet but are still interested in joining, please call Mr. Pat Fleming at 262-749-4775.


Child Supervision – A reminder to parents that children should never be left unattended during before or after school activities.  Teacher duties after school prevent them from supervising children that are waiting for athletic practices or other activities to begin.  K-Club is available to families that need supervision of their children before or after school.   The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to all of us here at St. Andrew School.


Office Check-in –Please remember to stop in the office for your visitor identification sticker and to sign-in if you are visiting the school. If children are leaving early from school they must be signed out and signed back in when they return. Thank you.


Scrip News   – Happy New Year!  It’s not a new scrip year though.  Our scrip year ends May 31st.  All orders placed until May 31, 2014 will count for tuition credit for 2014/15 school year.   If you have not taken advantage of this win/win program, you need to try it. 2014 Spartan Spectacular – ATHLETIC NEWS
ATHLETIC NEWS:  In today’s family envelope is the volunteer sheet for our 12th annual Spartan Spectacular.  This will be our last attempt to find volunteers.  Please consider helping out.  This program is very important to the school and to the athletics.  Did you know that the Athletics is not in the school budget?  That is why 12 years ago, a few parents came up with the idea to have this tournament so the Athletics had funds to purchase equipment, etc.  Without Spartan Spectacular the school would have to include Athletics in their budget.  If that happens, then our tuition costs will go up and so will the Athletic fee to participate in the program.  We don’t mean to sound so blunt, but we want everyone to realize the domino effect that would happen if there was no Spartan Spectacular.  The Athletic Committee is doing all they can to keep the program alive.  But we can’t do it without YOU!  Please sign up for some shifts and return the volunteer sheet via family envelope.  We truly understand that by volunteering doesn’t mean you have the time, it means you have a heart.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Spartan Bucks are available to purchase at concessions during games.

Spartan passes are available to purchase at Admissions.  If you already purchased your pass, it is waiting for you at admissions.

When attending any of our basketball games, please enter through the front entrance.  For the safety of our players, do NOT enter through the back entrance.  We need to keep the floors dry.

Our very own Spartan teams are playing Monday night, 1/20 Boys @ 7:45pm.  Tuesday night, 1/21 Girls @ 7:30pm.  Saturday night, 1/25 Girls @ 7pm and Boys @ 8:15pm.  We hope you all can come out and cheer our players on! 


 Please remember, if you come with younger children, please keep an eye on them. Children in grades K-5 need to have a parent with them to stay after school for Spartan Spectacular.  For their safety, they can’t be running around.  We will have crayons and coloring books available in the concession area, if they would like to sit and color and draw.


We have late start games on Thursday, 1/23 and Monday, 1/27.  Those games don’t start til 5pm.  Children will not be able to stay after school those two days, as there will be no supervision available.  Your child is welcome to attend Homework Club on Thursday and then come to the gym if they would like.

            We have no one signed up for January 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th and February 3rd, 5th and 6th!


Market Day News: Included in last week’s family envelope you were the January order forms for Market day.  In it you will find many healthy options to start you year off right.  Quick options for busy families all while supporting your school.  Please return your order forms to school by Thursday January 16.  You can place orders online at until Monday January 20th at 11 p.m..

Lunch with the Principal –I’d like to congratulate Quinn O’Grady for being selected for Lunch with the Principal.  Quinn is a third grade student in Mrs. Raykovich’s Class.  My thanks to all of the students that received a ticket, and keep up the good deeds!
