Parent Newsletter 3/4/14

March 14th Make-up Day – Due to school being closed for five days because of bad weather so far this year, we are required by state law to make-up one day to meet the minimum hour requirements set-up by the state of Wisconsin.  March 14th  (previously scheduled as an in-service day) will be a student contact day.  Feel free to call me at 262-728-6211 if you have any questions.  Thank you for your understanding.

Hot Lunch on that day will be Potato Bar or Peanut Butter Sandwich, Broccoli, Mandarin Oranges, Cookie and Milk.  Please mark your calendars with this information.

Town Hall Meeting – Our Annual Parent Town Hall Meeting will be held in the Cafeteria on Wednesday, March 19th at 6:30p.m..  In addition to very important school information being shared at this meeting, you will also have the chance to hear from Eric Szatkowski, Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) about the dangers our children face on the internet.  He is a nationally known speaker on this topic.

It is very important that at least one parent from each family attend the meeting on March 19th.  Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to find ways to keep you informed about the school.

Washington, D.C. Trip Money Due – A reminder to the parents of 8th graders that the Washington, D.C. Trip money is due by the end of this week on Friday, March 7th.

My family and I want to give all of you a HUGE “Shout-out- of THANKS for your prayers, thoughts, and support while we’ve been dealing with my reoccurrence of breast cancer. Your prayers, thoughts, and support lifted me up so high that I have had my surgery and arrived back home. I am well on the road-to-a-complete-recovery!! I have been very touched by your love and prayers and one thing I know for sure, is that you have all been angels guiding me through these last several weeks. I am so fortunate to be a member of this very loving and Christian community.

Paper Bags with Handles Needed – We are in need of paper bags with handles for our Food Pantry monthly collections.  If you have any extra bags, please send them to the school office.  Thank you.

Volleyball for Adults – We had fun playing a few games of recreational volleyball last Wednesday and just want to extend the invitation to all parents/teachers/parish members. Cost is just a one time fee of $5 and come as often as you like. We will not be playing this Wednesday (Ash Wednesday), but will be in the gym again on March 12th and 26th at 7:30 p.m. Enter through the gym doors near the playground.

Children’s Clothing Sale – In this week’s family note there is a sign up sheet to volunteer for the upcoming Clothing Sale. Please send it back by Thursday or sign up on line at is needed Wednesday night through Sunday afternoon (March 19-23). We will be making follow up calls to families as necessary to fill our open spots. The event is a lot of fun, is a chance to get to know other parents, supports the school financially and provides a service to the greater community. We appreciate you!

 Dishing with the Disciples presents opportunities for Lent  – St. Andrew’s in Delavan will be offering weekly adult faith formation during Lent through Dishing with the Disciples.  Let us journey together towards Holy Week and the Easter Season.  All the sessions are from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in the school cafeteria.

March 13th The Gospel Unplugged:  Uncovering the Heart of Christianity We will view the Chris Stefanick DVD that was postponed last month due to weather.  Chris is a well known youth minister and speaker.  His talk is directed to teens AND the young at heart.   Grandparents, parents, high school students, and young at heart searchers will find this evening an opportunity to give your faith a boost, and re-charge your sense wonder and awe of our Lord.

This is an opportunity for Adult Christian Formation AND an avenue to take advantage of being together as a FUN faith community.  Please consider joining us and bring a friend (evangelization).  We ask that if you feel in the mood to bring a snack to feed 4 people, but it is not a requirement.  Take the plunge and experience “Dishing with the Disciples” this Lent.

Save the date for the Big Ticket Raffle! – The Big Ticket Raffle Committee is starting to prepare for the 17th Annual Big Ticket Raffle.  The drawing will be held at the Delavan Legion Hall on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.  The Grand Prize for the raffle is $10,000.  We will also offer many other prizes for the raffle which last year included televisions, the latest electronics, outdoor living accessories, and much more.  Tickets will be sold at $100 each and only 300 tickets will be sold.  Details for purchasing tickets will follow soon.  In the meantime, if you would like to join the committee, please contact Ed & Renee Clair at 262-245-0210.

CCHS Open House – Catholic Central High School in Burlington will be having their Spring Open House on Tuesday, March 18th at 6:00p.m..  Please go to the CCHS website for more information about this event.


Market Day News – Thank you to all who placed orders last month. We are about halfway through our market day year and have earned over $1700 in profits. We are halfway to our goal. In this week’s Family Envelope you will find Market Day order forms.   Please take the time to fill one out and return it to school by Thursday, Feb 13th, or you can place an order online at until Feb 17.  Pick up will be Thursday, Feb 20th, from 3:30-5:00p.m..

Child Supervision – A reminder to parents that children should never be left unattended during before or after school activities.  Teacher duties after school prevent them from supervising children that are waiting for athletic practices or other activities to begin.  K-Club is available to families that need supervision of their children before or after school.   The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to all of us here at St. Andrew School.

Office Check-in –Please remember to stop in the office for your visitor identification sticker and to sign-in if you are visiting the school. If children are leaving early from school they must be signed out and signed back in when they return. Thank you.

Aram Public Library Programs for MarchTail Waggin’ Tutors with Divot – Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m.(Registration Required) – Yes, dog lovers…Divot is coming back to hear more stories!  Make an appointment to spend time reading with him the first Saturday of each month.  Stop by the Children’s Desk or call (262) 728-3111, ext. 117 to reserve your time slot!

Train Show – Saturday, March 8 from 9-4 and Sunday, March 9 from 9-2

Garden Crafts for All Ages  – Sunday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. – Whether you’re a gardener, a crafter, or just like to putter in the dirt, these crafts are fun and easy for people of all ages.  Recycle your old newspapers by folding them into seed-starting pots.  Create colorful garden markers to keep track of what you’ve planted.  Interested in more outdoorsy decorations?  Check out our Crafty Lil’ Buggies program for kids and our Wire and Bead Bugs program in April.

Create Your Own Comics (Tweens/Teens) – Thursday, March 27 at 6 p.m.  (Registration required) – Comics are pretty cool.  Even cooler?  Making your own.

Pizza and a Movie:  Planes (G) – Monday, March 31 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. – Dusty is a crop dusting plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator, who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test.   Sign up in person or call the library to reserve your spot beginning Wednesday, February 26.

St. Nick’s Breakfast: We are looking for a chairperson or co-chairs for the Children’s Gift Shop next year.  Please consider helping with this exciting part of the breakfast!  The children love doing their Christmas shopping there!!  Please contact Jen Martin: 262.949.2205 or if you are interested.

Lunch with the Principal –I’d like to congratulate Will Martin for being selected for Lunch with the Principal. Will is a Kindergarten student in Ms. Pearce’s Class.  Will, Logan Hermann(Grade 4), Ella Duckworth(Grade 3) and Camryn Rendon(Grade 5) will have lunch with me at Culver’s on Wednesday, March 12th.  My thanks to all of the students that received a ticket, and keep up the good deeds!


St. Andrew “PRIDE” – In this week’s “St. Andrew PRIDE”, I’d like to share with you the current totals of the “Pennies for Patients” Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraiser that is underway.  The classes are competing by grade level to earn a pizza party.  So far, $1,520.79 has been collected from all the grades.  Currently, Eighth grade is the leading grade with a total of $377.84.  The collection will continue through March 28th.

The current tally by grade level is:

My thanks to everyone that is taking part in this activity and to the Student Council for organizing this very worthwhile collection.  Such collections as this (and service to others) is what Catholic education is all about.  As Scripture states: “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”  Hebrews 13:16
