Christmas Concert Date Change – The Christmas Concert was tentatively listed on the 2013-14 School Calendar on Wednesday, December 18th. That date is incorrect. This year’s Christmas Concert will be held at 7:00p.m. on Thursday, December 19th (in the gym). Please mark your calendars with this new date.
Picture Retakes – A reminder that Picture Retakes and Volleyball Pictures will be done in the morning on Thursday, October 24th. Volleyball players should remember to bring their uniforms to school for their pictures on that day.
Safe Environment News – St. Andrew Parish will be hosting a “Safeguarding All God’s Children” training session in the Cafeteria on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00a.m.. The Milwaukee Archdiocese requires all volunteers working with children on a regular (more than once annually) basis to complete “Safeguarding God’s Children” training (formerly known as “VIRTUS”) and to submit to a federal and state background check. “Safeguarding” Training must be completed before volunteering for any activity, including Lunch Supervision and chaperoning for any field trips.

Treat Day – Attention Parents: Treat Day is back! The first one will be this Wednesday, October 23rd. If you wish to pay in advance, the total cost for the year is $4.00. A date for November has not been determined yet. The rest of the days this year are: December 18th, January 15th, February 12th, March 19th, April 16th and May 21st. F.Y.I. – the treats do not contain nuts or nut products. The cost is .50 cents a day. Volunteers are needed to help distribute the treats during the Lunch Period. Morning Drop-off Reminder – Please be careful when dropping your children off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon. Supervision of our playground area before school begins at 8:00 a.m. daily. Because there is no supervision until 8:00, students who do not ride the bus are asked to remain home until 8:00. Morning childcare is provided for a minimal fee for all students who need to be dropped off prior to 8:00 a.m. For the safety of our students, please do not drive on to the playground while students are outside.
Athletic News – Just a friendly reminder that Basketball packets are due back in the office no later than Wednesday, October 23rd.
Basketball packets were sent home in last week’s family envelope for all 5th – 8th graders (girls and boys). If you didn’t receive one or if you misplaced it, please call the school office to request one.

Dress Code Reminder – A reminder that the Family Handbook says that shorts may be worn after April 15th and before October 15th. Shorts may no longer be worn until April 16, 2014. Thank you for your continued efforts to follow the St. Andrew School Dress Code.
Colder Weather Ahead – Just a reminder as the colder weather approaches, to please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately. The students are expected to come to school with warm clothing for playing outside during the winter months. This also means suitable clothing for playing in the snow. Any students playing in the snow must have boots and snowpants. The wind chill factor will always be checked before letting the children out for recess. If it is too cold or dangerously icy, the children will have recess inside.
Computer Lab Volunteer Needed – Are you someone that enjoys the challenge of working with computers and keepings networks up and running? St. Andrew School is looking for volunteers to provide support for teachers when they bring their classes to the Computer Lab. Please contact Mr. Chovanec at 262-728-6211 if interested.
Lunch Supervision Monitor Needed –St. Andrew School is looking for a person or two to monitor the Lunch count and help with supervision in the Cafeteria from 11:30 to 12:05. This will be a paid position of $5.00 per day. If interested please contact Mr. John Chovanec, Principal at 262-728-6211.
Market Day News: Thank you to all the families who ordered market day this month. Thank you also to all the volunteers who helped during the pick up last week. November is all about PIES! If you order a pie St. Andrew School receives double profits this month only. Order a pie or three for your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners. Please return your order forms to school by Thursday November 7. You can also place orders on line at www.marketday.com until Monday November 11 until 11pm. Lunch with the Principal –I’d like to congratulate Cyrus Nateghi for being selected for Lunch with the Principal. Cyrus is a kindergarten student in Ms. Pearce’s Class. My thanks to all of the students that received a ticket, and keep up the good deeds!
St. Andrew “PRIDE” – In this weeks “St. Andrew PRIDE” section, I’d like to tell you about a very special service event that the children at our school are participating in. Service is an integral part of the mission of a Catholic school. Here at St. Andrew School all grades are actively involved in a number of service projects.
This year, all grades will be collecting grocery bags for the St. Andrew Parish Food Pantry. Each grade will take a month to collect food items. So far, our Kindergarten class collected food for the food pantry in September, and our sixth grade is collecting for October. The rest of the food collection schedule for this year is: Fifth Grade – December, Second Grade – January, Seventh Grade – February, Third Grade – March, Eighth Grade – April, Fourth Grade – May and First Grade – June. In November we will do our annual all-school food collection for Thanksgiving.
We at St. Andrew School feel that these service opportunities are an important part of our children’s education. As Scripture states: “Children, let us love in deed and in truth and not merely talk about it.” 1 John 3:18
