Parent Newsletter – 9/10/13

Safe Environment News – The Milwaukee Archdiocese requires all volunteers working with children on a regular (more than once annually) basis to complete “Safeguarding God’s Children” training (formerly known as “VIRTUS”) and to submit to a federal and state background check.

This means that all parents doing Playground Supervision or volunteering in the school in any way must:

  1. Read, sign and return the “Code of Ethic’s” and Mandatory Reporting Forms (given out at “Safeguarding” Training sessions)
  2. Submit to a federal and state background check (Forms given out at “Safeguarding” Training sessions – NEEDED TO BE DONE EVERY FIVE YEARS).

3.    St. Andrew’s will be hosting a training session in the Cafeteria on Wednesday, September 18th at 5:30p.m..

“Safeguarding” Training must be completed before volunteering for any activity, including Lunch Supervision and chaperoning for any field trips.

To register for a session through the Milwaukee Archdiocese,, please visit, click on the date you would like to attend, and follow the registration instructions.

If you have any additional questions about “Safe Environment” training, please contact Mr. Al Seemann at 262-728-8968.  Thank you for doing your part to help St. Andrew School provide a safe and caring environment for all of our students.  If you have any questions about any of these policies, please feel free to call me at 262-728-6211

Thank you for your caution! – Please be careful when dropping your children off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon.  Supervision of our playground area before school begins at 8:00 a.m. daily.  Because there is no supervision until 8:00, students who do not ride the bus are asked to remain home until 8:00. Morning childcare is provided for a minimal fee for all students who heed to be dropped off prior to 8:00 a.m.  For the safety of our students, please do not drive on to the playground while students are outside.  There is a designated area, turning on to our playground from 8th Street, for dropping off students in the mornings.

All students are expected to be at school at 8:15a.m. when the bell is rung.  Students line up by class on the playground and then are welcomed in to school.  For security reasons, the playground doors are locked as soon as all students have entered the building.  If your child is late, he / she should be taken to the front doors to enter, and check in at the office before going to the classroom.

St. Andrew “PRIDE”  –This Fall marks the 72nd anniversary of the opening of St. Andrew School.  Since 1941, St. Andrew School has been providing quality Catholic education for parents that choose a faith-filled education for their children.

In 1939, the Sisters of St. Francis came to begin a Catholic educational program in Delavan.  In 1941, a kindergarten was started in the convent at 119 South 7th Street (where the school gym now stands) and a grade was added every year thereafter.  The school was built in 1948 and in May of that year, all of the classes were moved into the new school building, as we know it today. The Auditorium/Gymnasium was added in 1956. (This information is from the 2010 St. Andrew Parish Directory, p.6)

From the beginning, St. Andrew School has stressed academic excellence in combination with a Faith-filled curriculum, guided by both teachers and parents alike.  This has proven to be a winning combination.  When families, teachers and students are all working together, St. Andrew School is proof that tremendous things can happen.  You can have faith that your children are receiving a great education, because it is with Faith that we teach.  As Scripture states: “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
