Family Welcome Back Letter

August 9, 2013

Dear St. Andrew Families,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!  I hope that all of you are having a wonderful summer! Although the halls have been extremely quiet, there has been much going on here at school in anticipation for the upcoming school year.  The staff has been in and out throughout the summer months busy getting their classrooms ready for the children’s arrival and the cleaning crew has been hard at work creating a sparkling building!  We have many new people and exciting educational changes ahead for this new school year all of which will continue to improve the already wonderful Christ-centered education that St. Andrew Parish School provides.  I am happy to begin my time here at St. Andrew School, and I want to thank you for the warm welcome that I have received.

Forms turn-in day and a chance for students to visit their teacher and classroom will be Wednesday, August 28th  from 8:00 a.m. to noon.  Any existing fees should also be taken care of on this day.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR – On August 28th, please sign-up for playground duty on the calendar located just outside the school office.  A reminder that families need to sign-up for a week of playground supervision each school year.

Safe Environment News – The Milwaukee Archdiocese requires all volunteers working with children on a regular (more than once annually) basis to complete “Safeguarding God’s Children” training (formerly known as “VIRTUS”) and to submit to a federal and state background check.

This means that all parents volunteering in the school in any way must:

  1. Sign and return the St. Andrew Parish Safeguarding Form
  2. Submit to a federal and state background check (NEEDED TO BE DONE EVERY FIVE YEARS).

To register for a session, please visit http://www.archmil.org/offices/safeguarding.htm, click on the date you would like to attend, and follow the registration instructions.

“Safeguarding” Training must be completed before volunteering for any school activity, including field trips.  Thank you for doing your part to help St. Andrew School provide a safe and caring environment for all of our students.  If you have any questions about any of these policies, please feel free to call me at 262-728-6211.

Registration — Registration forms are up and available on our school website!  We are trying to continue to make the registration process as painless as possible and are hopeful that this will help make that happen for all of you. To access these forms you need to visit our website at standrews-delavan.org and click on the parish school at the top of the page.  When you get to our home school page you click on the side bar that reads tuition and registration and there are the forms for you to print off and fill out at your convenience.  If you do not choose to fill out the forms via the website, you can fill them out on Welcome Back Day or your Registration Packet will be available for pick up in the back of church following masses on the weekends of August 17th and August 24th.

A Warm Welcome to our New Staff Members—We are happy and excited to welcome Mr. Ryan Fritz to our St. Andrew teaching staff.  Mr. Fritz is our new Phy. Ed. teacher.  As you know, Mr. Fritz served as a long-term substitute in Phy. Ed. for St. Andrew’s School last spring.  He will be serving as a Phy. Ed. Teacher at St. Francis de Sales School and at St. Andrew’s.

Welcome also to Mr. Brian Wrightson.  Brian has been teaching Music at St. Patrick’s in Elkhorn for the past three years, and will be entering his tenth year over-all as a Music Teacher.  Mr. Wrightson is the Parish Music Director for both St. Patrick and St. Andrew Parishes.

Be sure to stop in and say “hi” on Forms turn- in/Welcome Back Day!

Good Luck Ms. Burns – We would like to wish Ms. Nancy Burns well as she leaves St. Andrew School to take a new teaching position in Milwaukee.  I am currently in the process of hiring a replacement for Ms. Burns for this upcoming school year.

Thank you Mrs. Duesterbeck – I’d also like to thank Mrs. Denise Duesterback for her service to St. Andrew School in our Before and After School Program.  Mrs. Duesterbeck has informed me that she will not be returning for this upcoming school year.  I am currently in the process of hiring a replacement for Mrs. Duesterbeck.

Save the Date—– Thursday, September 12th at is the Welcome Back Cook-out  – Please mark your calendars for this new, fun activity to be sponsored by the Home and School Association.  Watch for more information to come home about this event at the start of the school year.

Don’t Forget Student Physicals—–Just a reminder that all Kindergarten, all new students and all grades 5 and 7 students must have physicals and the forms must be turned in to the office as soon as possible.  The forms can be printed off of our website or please stop by the office to pick one up.
